Any student at Oxbridge has to belong to a college, but it is the university and not the college which awards the degrees.
There are a number of factors that you might like to consider when picking a college. For example:
Size (number of students, size of college ground)
Mix-gender vs female only
Undergraduate vs mature college
Location
On-site/Off-site accommodation
Environment and college amenities
College societies, history, ethos and culture
Financial support and access for disability students
For Oxford in 2021, the offer rate for a college was anything between 8-15%, but a high offer rate for the previous year does not imply it is easy to get in the next year as there could also be a case where an undersubscribed college might end up getting an influx of strong pooled candidates from other oversubscribed colleges so that would mean you could face strong competition.
Others might consider submitting an open application; 18% of all Cambridge offers in 2022 was made to students who received an offer from another college or who were allocated through the open application system.
