What goes on at Oxford outside your studies?

Without a doubt life at Oxbridge is demanding but students are highly encouraged to pursue hobbies and a healthy social life outside the busy curriculum.

There are over 400 societies at Oxford ranging from music and languages, to volunteering and journalism. Active participation in a university society is not only an effective way to build communication and team skills which are essential for personal development, but it could also be a way to kickstart a new hobby or refine your existing skills in a fun context.

Each year the student union runs the Fresher’s Fair where students are able to join and chat to different clubs and societies, and to meet other like-minded students. Last year the event was hosted virtually and registration was required.

Now if you are planning on applying to Oxford or Cambridge, your UCAS personal statement should contain some reference to your interest and hobbies (up to 20% of word count) but these should only be included if they demonstrate the selection criteria for your course of choice.
