Oxbridge undergraduate law courses for becoming barristers and solicitors in the UK

Barristers are legal professionals who specialise in advocacy and represent clients in court. In order to become a barrister in the UK, an individual must complete a law degree and pass the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC). After completing the BPTC, a barrister must be called to the Bar by one of the four Inns of Court.

Solicitors are general practitioners who provide legal advice and assistance to clients. To become a solicitor, you must first complete a law degree and then complete the Legal Practice Course (LPC), followed by a period of "training contract," during which you work under the supervision of an experienced solicitor.

Oxford and Cambridge are two reputable institutions that provide undergraduate and postgraduate law courses.

Oxford undergraduate law courses:

  • BA in Jurisprudence

  • BA in Jurisprudence with Senior Status

  • BA in Law with Law Studies in Europe Entry requirements: A-level (AAA); IB 38

Cambridge undergraduate law course:

  • BA in Law Entry requirements: A-level (A*AA); IB 40-42

Both institutes require applicants to take the LNAT (National Admissions Test for Law) test which typically takes place in the September before the Oxbridge UCAS deadline. Some colleges ask applicants to submit written work prior to interview.

Oxbridge Gateway supports applicants in their law admissions processes, from personal statement construction to LNAT and interview preparation, through bespoke guidance and mentoring by our experienced Oxbridge-graduate law consultants.
